About Me

Hello! Welcome to the writing portfolio of Holly Turner. I am a twenty-three year old writer from the North-East of England. From sixteen, I started my career in music journalism, interviewing bands like 'Stereophonics' and 'Pixies'. From here, I became editorial assistant of 'Darkus' magazine. I then became a freelance writer who had work published in 'Little White Lies', 'Wonderland Magazine' and 'The Journal' newspaper. I wrote a full-length play called 'Everybody Knows This is Nowhere' which was performed as part of a scratch night at London's 'The Other Palace' theatre, performed by Rosie Meek and Jack Etheridge. You can watch this via YouTube and from a link on the Homepage.

I graduated with a 2:1 from Newcastle University with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Media and Culture. While at university, I was vice president of the fashion society as well as director of the blog. After graduating, I began working with New Writing North on the 'North East Now' project where I wrote a personal essay about my experience of going to a Russell Group University as working class woman. This essay was published in 'METRO' and 'The Journal'. I was most recently accepted on to the 'Emerging Creative Associates' programme at NWN where I have been developing a collection of personal essays about growing up and being neurodivergent. On this programme, I got the opportunity to do a 'Creative Writing Retreat' at Cambridge University where I worked on these essays and met with fellow writers and creatives.

I am still a freelancer looking to be commissioned so if you are looking for non-fiction, fiction, poetry or article pieces please drop me a message!
